Photographing live performances, be it drama, music or dance, requires the ability to go about the job with the minimum of fuss, getting the right shots but at the same time disappearing into the background.

Being a performer myself, I know how distracting it can be when some twerp is bouncing around the auditorium firing the flash gun from hell every ten seconds. So I always work with the stage lighting. Even the focus-assist light is usually switched off. Which, on a techie note, really shows up the limitations of auto-focus. It’s surprising how often I’ve found myself reverting to manual-focus.

If you are involved with a dance or theatre school and would like your performances photographed, or if you would like some rehearsal shots to decorate the place, or if you would like to discuss a group rate for some head and shoulders shots for front of house, get in touch.
